Death by procedure

Into the void of some pointless task
the thankless public servant falls,
alienated
from even the idea of civil service
and set apart from any public.

He fills his days with Kafka's
purposeless activity;
his virtual pen pushing to create
page upon page of policy
and well-regulated rules
destined to be designated

red tape by no less nameless, faceless
bureaucrats who may also wonder why
and ask as much in triplicate.
